Appellations d'origine contrôlées

The french AOC (Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée) system guarantees both the geographical origin of the wines and their quality: official tastings and analysis are conducted to select these wines and determine if they are representative of the "Appellation". This system was instaured in 1934 and has been a major factor in the quality development of french wines.

The company presented here under the name DFJ / David et Foillard is owned and managed by the FOILLARD family, a Beaujolais wine-producers and wine-lovers' family ever since 1826. A mere century after they bought their first vineyards in the region, they decided to develop a "négociant" –wine-merchant- activity, thereby managing themselves the entire cycle of the wine, from the grape on the vine to the glass in your hand...

Established in Saint Georges de Reneins in 1934 when Tony David and Léon Foillard bought a wine company from their mentor Jean Passot, the David & Foillard Company was ,from the very start, based on a simple but rather modern idea for the time: build a successful company through both a strong commitment to quality and an area of expertise spreading from Chablis to Marseille.

This was a real challenge back in these days, as shipping was far less efficient -to say the least-. To ensure the success of their concept, Tony David moved south to Sorgues, near Avignon, while Léon Foillard settled in Saint-Georges. He eventually became mayor of this village for a mere thirty years. Both Saint Georges and Sorgues are strategic centers for the shipment of wine; Ideally placed on the North-South axis, they are also litterally surrounded by vineyards: Saint-Georges is in between the ‘Crus du Beaujolais’ area and the southern Beaujolais region producing fruity and aromatic wines, while Sorgues is only a few vines away from the legendary Chateauneuf-du-Pape vineyards, at the heart of the Rhone valley.

It also took dedicated men to make this adventure a success: wine is more than just wine, it is the communion between nature and men, men who endleesly try to understand and refine, to produce the best out of what they have been given. Jean Limonon, Georges Guerrier, Albert Dailly, Jean Foillard...These men, through their hard work, have helped build a strong and professionnal image associated to consumer satisfaction through quality. We keep their memories alive by distributing our best ‘cuvées’ under their names...

Today, the FOILLARD family is still in charge of the company David & Foillard: a family business, a flexible structure bringing quality and dedicated service to customers all around the world. More than ever, the family's estates are the ambassadors of our commitment to providing you with the best wines possible.
